Nino Khomasuridze - Participant of the Fostering Inclusive Democracy(FID) program
I always try my best to make my goals come true. The most important thing in life is to set a goal, try and work hard to achieve it”- Nino Khomasuridze, Participant of the Fostering Inclusive Democracy (FID) Program.
I am a representative of a generation which has experienced war and internal conflicts in Georgia. Therefore, the Russian-Georgian war of 2008 has left negative feelings and a heavy impact on my life.
I live in the village Mejvriskhevi, Region: Gori (the village is located 50 meters from the 'border').
I clearly remember the beginning and development of the war, when the whole Georgia united and bravely confronted russian tanks, even though people didn’t have experience. I remember the terrifying sounds of bombs, shelling, fleeing and the fear of losing the loved ones.
After the war ended I remember the feeling of happiness and joy of returning to my hometown, taking care of it, but still I was feeling alienated. This difficult experience had a big impact on me. Nevertheless, I always try to make a contribution to the development of my country.
The non-formal education and FID programme helps me a lot. All this allows me to share the knowledge and skills I gain from the programme with young people living on the dividing line.
The programme gives me the opportunity to do work that is valuable and important to me. For example: helping people, empowering them and looking after their well-being. The programme has also helped me in my professional orientation.
At the same time, I want to take care of the development and progress of my region. Due to the fact that our family is a great admirer of viticulture and winemaking traditions, I also often help my father in tending the vineyards, and I am seriously thinking about learning and developing this occupation better in the future. I see myself as a successful winemaker in the future. I would be proud to continue this special family tradition.
The most important thing in life is to set a goal, try and work hard to achieve it.
I think the present generation, we have to make our dreams come true to change our everyday lives for the better.
The Fostering Inclusive Democracy (FID) program is implemented by the UNA Georgia in cooperation with the Swedish UN Association and with the financial support of ForumCiv / SIDA.
