UNA Georgia conducted 4th Tbilisi Regional Model UN Conference dedicated to Nuclear Non-Proliferation

The United Nations Association of Georgia in cooperation with UNA Armenia, UNA Azerbaijan (initiative group) and UN Youth Club founded on a base of Ilia Chavchavadze State University organized 4th Tbilisi Regional Model UN Conference on Nuclear Non-Proliferation in frames of "Confidence Building in South Caucasus” Program.</p> <p>The participants of 4th Tbilisi Regional Model UN Conference were selected on basis of competition by UNA Georgia with assistance of UNA Armenia, UNA Azerbaijan (initiative group) and UN Youth Club.</p> <p>The students from Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia gathered in Georgia for preparing 4th Tbilisi Regional Model UN Conference. During the preparation period participants attended various activities designed for broadening their knowledge on UN system and had discussions on nuclear non-proliferation related issues. The students were trained by experts in making effective presentations and conflict resolution, in addition, Model UN trainers had workshops with participants on Model UN regulations including designing position papers and debating. The representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia discussed Millennium Development Goals and expressed their opinion on the ways of meeting the targets for ensuring effective implementation of MDGs. Throughout the preparation period, the participants in the role of delegates of different countries simulated the Security Council of United Nations, worked in groups and made awareness raising presentations on respective countries.</p> <p>The participants took part in different interactive activities designed to familiarize them with cultural diversity of each country and participated in various team-building activities.</p> <p>On September 11, 2009 4th Tbilisi Regional Model UN Session was launched at Ilia Chavchavadze State University, attended by Lasha Jugheli, an Executive Director of UNAG and Professor Sergo Ratiani, a Head of Administration of The Ilia Chavchavadze State University. While simulating the Security Council of United Nations, open speeches and presentations of position papers were made by delegates. After open discussions, delegates elaborated two draft resolutions and eventually agreed on one with majority of votes. At the closing ceremony the participants were awarded with certificates for a valued contribution in 4th Tbilisi Regional Model UN Conference.</p> <p>The participants of 4th The Regional Tbilisi Model UN Conference obtained knowledge on UN system, nuclear non-proliferation related issues and acquired practical skills in making effective presentations and debating.</p> <p>4th Tbilisi Regional Model UN Conference conducted in frames of "Confidence building in South Caucasus” Program, implemented by The United Nations Association of Georgia in cooperation with UNA Sweden, with financial assistance of Forum Syd / Sida.
