UNA Georgia organized two days training on Refugee Law and International Protection of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Borjomi

On July 14-16, 2010 UNAG in collaboration with UNHCR Protection Unit, with the financial support of the EC and Council of Europe organized two days training on Refugee Law and International Protection of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Borjomi. The cycle of trainings was conducted for state lawyers and human rights defenders representing various NGOs working on refugee cases (Article 42, Human Rights Centre and Georgian Young Lawyers Association).</p> <p>25 participants attended the training. The first day encompassed presentations and discussions on the basic international protection principles, mission and the role of UNHCR. In addition, representatives of UNA Georgia and UNHCR introduced the state lawyersandNGO representatives Refugee Status Determination procedure; Inclusion and Exclusion clauses (1F); Extradition cases; Role and standards of COI in refugee protection and case study.</p> <p>The second day session covered issues of national asylum legal framework including the present situation, reflection of international refugee protection principles in national legislation, domestic RSD procedure/practice, and administrative practice as well as the comparative review of the present Law on Refugees of Georgia and the new draft law.</p> <p>The trainings were conducted within the frameworks of Refugee Council of Georgia program run by UNAG in cooperation with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR).
